About This Project

Inspired by papel picado, this work shows two lovebirds kissing in the sunset. Although I feel this image can relate to anyone, I feel this work speaks loudly to the Hispanic and Latino population which now constitute the largest ethnic group in our society and accounts for more than half of the nation’s growth over the past decade. Due to the personal relation of festive events in the form of the papel picado, many could easily feel drawn to the imagery. I addition, I imagine the lovebirds celebrating the end of an era. One in which our difference our celebrated and not used as reasons to keep us down.
